Feathers and fans keep you cool

It is getting HOT in the south... summer time is here... I am keeping cool with feathers and fans... This is my first project with a lace design... I have stayed out of the frog swamp this week with it... Made good progress... I am keeping this post short... Its my first one... Next week will be much better

6/1/11
It now measures 9 inches! May not seem much but I have accomplished quite a bit... and staying inside out of the heat is keeping me cool for sure... I am half way thru my first skein and have 2 more to go.  Should be 50-54 inches long... a good size for a wrap i think.  More about the project... Feather and Fan wrap.  (Variation of pattern found in Susan Bates "My Knitting Teacher")  Made out of Caron Simply Soft in Forest Floor.  Using no 9 interchangeable cable needles from Knitpicks.com.  This is going to be a project for me.  (Not selfish in my opinion).  If you cannot enjoy making something for yourself, you need to find something that you can.  This will not be my only WIP I have going but I do enjoy working on it.  Maybe the "fans" will keep the storms away this summer.  I sure hope so.  Temp is going to be 97 today.  Hello summer and hurricane season.  Got my go bag ready and plans for my family safety and knitting stash are in place.  I hope no one has any storms this year.  I will knit all the fans I can to keep them away.

Feather and Fans
She gathers feathers to line her nest.
To protect her babies and give them the best
Fans come along and blow them away.
She must go out and gather feathers again,
A never ending battle until time ends.
Along comes a spider and says to her:
My Dear, My Dear, there is no need to run around each day.
Gathering feathers while the fans blow them away.
Knit them together and and you will see.
They will stay in one place and blow away no more.
So she did what the spider said and knit them together.
And there they stayed forever and ever.

Close-up... for detail... I know, looks skewed. See pic below

Work done as of 6/1/11

  3. Feather and Fan was my first lace too. It was easy to memorize and not hard to find my spot if I got off track. Looks pretty!

  7. I love that pattern, are you finding it difficult? I'm wanting to branch a bit with my knitting and wondering if this might be a good place to branch?

  11. Looks like you've made a lot of progress since last Wednesday! I hope you don't need to use your hurricane safety plans, but how smart to include a knitting stash ready to go!

  12. Looks lovely so far. The feather and fan is so much fun to knit and a great intro to lace. Check out Ysolda Teague's Liesl pattern for a cardigan knit out of it.
